Chapter 3 Summary

The Reverend will be Eddie's English teacher when he starts school again. The Reverend is coming to Eddie's house two or three days a week to help his mom with the grieving process. It's been two months since Billy died. Eddie doesn't think much about Billy anymore. Billy starts to appear in Eddie's dreams, at his window and in the back of cars when Eddie is filling the tanks. It almost scares Eddie into talking but he doesn't know who to tell.

One Wednesday night, Mrs. Proffit leaves for church. Eddie is flipping through the TV channels, when he comes across a show about a real live haunted house. His fear works up, so he ends up going to hide in the basement. He chooses the basement because he thinks he is facing his fears this way, resolving the problem, like turning into...
