Cormoran Strike
Cormoran Strike is a private detective who grew up in Cornwall. He is a large, 6'3" ex-soldier with experience working in the Special Investigation Branch, the plain-clothes wing of the Royal Military Police. He was almost killed in an IED explosion in Afghanistan. Riding on a dirt road in the back seat of a Victor, he had a premonition of the explosion and grabbed his comrade, Richard Anstis, from the passenger into the back of the vehicle, just before the explosion. The young driver was killed. Anstis's face was badly scarred and Strike lost his lower right leg which he replaced with a prosthetic metal rod. He was decorated for bravery for his quick thinking.
