Summary

Riley holds the box of newspaper articles and asks Jeannie what it all means. Jeannie insists that Frank would not have wanted Riley to see the articles, that she had been trying to find them before Riley did, and to please throw them away. The articles all profess Lisa as a murderer. Jeannie explains that Lisa was about to go to trial for the murder of Steve Davis, the handsome violin teacher from the VCR tapes. It was an accident, Jeannie says, but Lisa was afraid she would be convicted; moreover, she felt guilty that she had taken a life. Riley skims the topmost article: allegedly, Steve Davis had written to Julliard to convince the music school to reject Lisa's application.
