Summary

Chapter 3 returns to Tessa and Jim as they are being shuttled to a clinic along with other surviving passengers after the crash landing. Jim waits for Tessa to look at him so they can exchange looks as they drive through the quiet streets of the city. Two flight attendants, a French man, and others, some moaning and some silent, accompany them in the van. Everyone is separately trying to remember and make sense of the crash.

Jim tries to remember what he saw and the feeling of being afraid, but he cannot. He has a large cut on his forehead that Tessa keeps looking at. She thinks about touching it to help them remember.
