Summary

In Chapter 31: "The Day that Changed Everything," Arlo's forbidden memory is told in the second-person. At 17 years old, Arlo and S were planning for their future. However, They were forced to run from the Deaf Devils where Arlo was knocked out. He woke up to police who arrested him and got him to sign a paper with a competent interpreter and under duress. Back at Brother Birch's house, it is revealed that the paper was a confession that Arlo was part of the Deaf Devils and raped S. He swears that never happened, and is devastated to learn that S is dead.

In Chapter 32: “The Facebook Profile,” Cyril realizes - with the help of a picture Hanne took- that Arlo and Bruno look shockingly similar. Unable to find anything about Bruno, Cyril remembers that he went to Rochester six months after the breakup...
