Summary

Jaxie fell asleep and had a nightmare. He woke up and saw that night had fallen. The old man was sitting on the porch of the hut cooking the goat meat and singing an Australian folk song called The Wild Colonial Boy. The made himself a plate of food and called out to Jaxie that there was plenty there for two. He suggested they should be civilized and share a meal but accepted that if whoever was out there meant to do him harm then that was his fate. Jaxie had his rifle with him and reflected that it would be very easy to kill the old man. He also knew that the old man had a gun and could be firing it at Jaxie but instead he was offering to feed him.

Jaxie didn’t move or say anything and decided to wait...
