Chapter 12: Doris Summary
Penelope receives a phone call from Mr. Brookner, telling her that an American has purchased the Stern panels and the money has been deposited in her account. She feels faint, but elated at the same time. She hangs up and asks Antonia and Danus to go with her to Porthkerris. They happily agree. Penelope writes Olivia a letter to explain where they are going and why. They will be staying at The Sands, since it has such fond memories for Penelope. Surprisingly, The Sands has now become one of the most premier hotels in the country and they are treated to a fine, extravagant experience.
Nancy, meanwhile, still feels slighted by her mother's behavior over the Stern paintings and the fight with Noel. She considers calling Podmore's Thatch, but puts it off continually until finally she calls and does not receive...
