Chapter 10: Roy Brookner Summary
Noel gets up early to help his mother presumably clean out her attic. However, Noel is not a strong man of action and prefers to get out of work, rather than volunteer for it. This situation has great financial potential for him so he changes his usual lazy approach. Despite the fact that he is in there for hours, Noel finds nothing and gets into a foul mood.
Noel makes Antonia uncomfortable. She is also worried about her future prospects as she is eighteen with no money, no family, nowhere to live and no money left from her father. She has told Olivia all of this, but when she is with Penelope, she does not have all of these worries.
Nancy, meanwhile, shows up while Noel is there for the weekend ostensibly to talk about the Lawrence Stern paintings...
