Bret Easton Ellis

Bret Easton Ellis is the narrator and central character of this novel. He is a seventeen-year-old White homosexual boy who dreams of being a writer. He is already working on his first novel. Before the beginning of his senior year at private school, Bret’s goal for himself was to remain closeted as a homosexual. Even though Bret has had several homosexual relationships with his classmates, he has not told anyone about his sexual orientation. He is dating Debbie to keep people from suspecting what he is doing in secret.

Bret becomes disturbed when he learns that a new boy, Robert, will be attending school with his group during their senior year.
