Gritten

Gritten is where the house of Paul’s mother is located. It is described by multiple characters as a desolate and dilapidated place. Paul even says that people struggle to leave Gritten Park even after they graduate. This is also where the first of the Charlie murders takes place, leading to at least three known copycat killings in other locations. Gritten is also where Amanda finds Charlie’s dead body and where Dean Price goes to try and both figure out and avenge Michael’s death.

Gritten Hospital

Gritten Hospital is where Paul’s mother Daphne is living as she slowly dies from dementia. Paul visits her frequently throughout the novel. This is also where he meets his mother’s caretaker, Sally. Daphne mind is often trapped in different times in her life, and many of these lead to Paul thinking about those moments in his own life...
