Summary
For months, Tha’mma was unable to decide whether or not she truly wanted to go to Dhaka to look for Jethamoshai. Finally, near the end of 1963, the narrator made the decision for her and bought plane tickets to Dhaka. Tha’mma hesitantly agreed, although she exhibited much anxiety about the trip. Years later, the narrator realized that her anxiety likely centered around her feelings of confusion and disorientation towards Dhaka. Specifically, she had been born and raised there, but it had not been her home for decades. The narrative then shifts ahead almost 20 years. Nick and Ila married each other when they were about 30 years old. Nick and Ila’s friends visited them after their honeymoon. The narrator drank a large amount of alcohol during this visit.
