Summary
When the narrator spent time with Ila and Nick in England, he was fascinated to learn more about England’s culture and history. However, he also began to realize that his own understanding of England was fairly limited and often relied on inventions of his own imagination. Conversation shifted to Nick’s work; Nick said that he left his job in Kuwait simply because he had grown tired of it. Two weeks later, the narrator had dinner with Ila, Nick, and May. Ila was excited because she had been offered a job working for a non-profit organization. The narrator grew internally distressed as it became evident that Ila had romantic feelings for Nick. However, the narrator remained civil. Partway into the dinner, Nick mentioned Kuwait again, and May reprimanded him. May then exposed that Nick left the job after his supervisor accused him...
