Summary
In 1430, Henry VI arrives in France for his French coronation. Because of the ongoing war in the country, Henry is coronated in Paris instead of Reims, as per tradition. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the country, Joan of Arc is captured by the English, tried, and executed as a heretic. The citizens of Paris organize a spectacular welcome for King Henry VI but his coronation two weeks later is "a shabby and disorganized affair" (97). After attending one session of the French parliament, Henry returned to England. Throughout all of these events, Henry's relatives and councilors continue to vie for control and influence over the young King.
As tensions escalate again between Beaufort and Gloucester, Beaufort tries to ship his wealth out of England. Gloucester invades Beaufort's shift and confiscates his wealth. In parliament, Beaufort succeeds in defending himself and no one, including Gloucester, speaks out...
