3 R's
There is a recurrent accent in the novel where the speaker rolls their r's, marked by writing words with three r's. This accent symbolizes a dangerous Slavic otherness. Every time this accent is used, the speaker is indicated as part of a violent conspiracy to steal the seventh function.
Missing fingers
Missing fingers symbolize membership in the Logos Club. It is through an investigation of multiple people with missing digits that Simon and Bayard find the Logos Club, and subsequently it becomes apparent that everyone missing fingers is part of the secret society.
