Summary
Simon and Bayard arrive in Bologna, Italy, and head out to find the writer Umberto Eco. Bologna at this time is on the edge of revolution, and the atmosphere is politically tense. There are communists, fascists, and members of the Red Brigades around, and the city is covered in political graffiti. Simon and Bayard go to the university where Eco works. He is not there, but a porter suggests two cafes where Eco often goes. The two go to a crowded bar and are told Eco is not there, but decide to stay and have some drinks anyways. They join a group of students who are arguing politics, and befriend two of them, Enzo and Bianca.
