Summary
George’s family were wondering whether he would turn up. Heini was eager for the chance to betray George, and encouraged their mother to forget about him. However, an older brother reassured her privately that he had taken steps to warn George away. Fritz was nervous because the Gestapo wanted to see him again about the jacket. At Westhofen, Fuellgrabe provided details of George’s latest outfit and location.
Paul went out on the pretense of getting football tickets from a friend. He sought out George’s old comrades Schenk and Sauer, because George thought they might help. However, Schenk had been arrested, and Sauer pretended not to understand, because he assumed that Paul was a spy. At their different places of work, both Paul and Hermann studied their colleagues, wondering about their private opinions.
