Summary
In “Third Moon,” Maali and Sena sit in a mara tree and observe the living. It is the same tree under which Buddha sat. While looking “at the people walking through the park,” Maali contemplates the story of his life and the people who influenced him (173). When Crow Man calls Maali, Maali demands to know when he will “learn to whisper” (174).
Maali, Crow Man, and Jaki meet. During the conversation, Crow Man mishears what Maali is trying to tell Jaki on Maali’s behalf. Maali wants her to forget the box and “Find the negatives” (176). Jaki eventually realizes she is communicating with Maali, Jaki does not leave his belongings as an offering, angering Crow Man.
Jaki tells DD about her conversation with Crow Man. DD scoffs, believing it more effective to work with detectives than soothsayers. Then they study...
