Summary

Evelyn meets Don Adler and she is charmed by him. She tells the studio to cancel dates they have planned for her with other men. Evelyn stars in a hit film called Father and Daughter, and the night of the premier, Don proposes marriage and Evelyn accepts. Gossip magazines report breathlessly on the romance. Evelyn cultivates a friendship with producer Harry Cameron, whom she learns is gay.

Shortly after the wedding, Don stars in a western film that flops and he begins taking out his frustrations on Evelyn. When he tells her he wants her to get pregnant, she refuses to put her career on hold to do so. He slaps her. They star in a film together for which they are both nominated for Oscars. They both lose, and Don hits Evelyn again the night of the awards ceremony...
