Chapter 9 Summary

Adelia takes the news of the murder to the nuns. Mother Endyve seems to think that if it is not a suicide then Dame Dakers must be the murderer. Sister Havis comes after Adelia after she finishes talking to Mother Endyve. Sister Havis tells her that the murderer cannot be Dame Dakers because she locked Dame Dakers up before the murder. She agrees with the evidence Adelia presented, however, and that Bertha's death is murder.

Gyltha is working in the kitchen. She's helping the staff to prepare the meal for Emma's wedding. Gyltha tells Adelia that she thinks Emma might be having second thoughts because Emma still hasn't spoken to her fiancé.
