Chapter 8 Summary

Mother Edyve makes the arrangements to put up the queen, all of her soldiers and the others as they arrive at Godstow. Adelia has to break the news to Gyltha that Rowley is gone. Gyltha fills Adelia in on the arrival of Emma's parents and Emma's fiancé, since Adelia was gone. Adelia finds out that Emma's fiancé is Lord Wolvercote, who is the man that has put together an army for the queen.

Gyltha says Emma's parents are paying Lord Wolvercote two hundred marks as Emma's dowry. Gyltha says Emma has not come out to greet Wolvercote since he arrived. Gyltha also says that an attorney, Warin, arrived looking for his lost cousin—Talbot of Kidlington. Finally, Gyltha says that Wolvercote had two men hanged from the bridge when he caught them robbing his home upon his return. Adelia confirms she saw...
