Summary

In the West, from Fall 1957 – August 1958, Irina continued her narration in “The Carrier.” She joined the typing pool at Ralph’s, and they asked about her relationship with Teddy, which had progressed from a cover into “a real couple without [her] even realizing it” (159). While they gossiped, a woman entered the diner. She was dressed sophisticatedly in heels and fox fur with “perfectly curled” red hair (161).
