Point of View

This novel is told from two different points of view. The portions of the story that lead up to Chris’ murder are told from the point of view of an omniscient third-person narrator. This point of view works well because these sections of the novel detail the actions and decisions of Holly and her group of friends. Because there are secrets each girl hides from the other, such as Selena dating Chris in private and Julia liking Finn, a first-person narrator could not adequately tell this story. There are too many lies and too much deception for any one narrator to tell the complete story. Also, the third-person point of view keeps the reader from focusing on any one character in particular or from getting too attached to any one character.
