Summary
In “Instructions for Married Christian Husbands” (145), the first-person narrator directly addresses the husbands of Christian women. The story is divided into titled sections. In the first of these sections, “The Basics” (146), the narrator tells the husbands that they are “especially low-hanging fruit” (146). She reflects on how eye contact or a subtle gesture on her part may lead them to wonder if they imagined her interest, and theorizes that they may simply want to be treated as men instead of children. She tells them that she imagines they may be surprised by their attraction to someone so different from their wives — “dark with short, kinky hair” (146). She says that she is attracted to their hunger.
In “Parking” (147), she tells the husbands that they should park one block away in her neighborhood.
