Summary

Chapter 10, titled “Herland” introduced four new key people in the history of Wonder Woman: Olive Byrne, Ethel Byrne, Margaret Sanger, and Lou Rogers. Olive Byrne was Ethel’s daughter and Sanger’s niece. She was delivered by Sanger (just as all of Ethel’s 18 children were). Olive’s father was severely abusive which prompted her mother to leave and move in with Olive’s grandparents. Olive’s mother, Ethel, gave custody of her two children to her parents and moved to New York. Upon the deaths of Ethel’s parents the children were moved into separate orphanages. During this time (the early 1910s) Ethel and Margaret were living in Greenwich Village and heavily involved in feminist and socialist causes. The chapter next introduces Annie Lucasta Rogers, a cartoonist who submitted her art under the name ‘Lou’ to not give away her sex. Lou...
