Hazel Linden
Hazel is the novel’s protagonist. In the present plotline, she is thirty. When the novel begins, Hazel works at Hogan’s Rare Bookshop and is dating Barnaby, a professor. She lives in Bloomsbury, her childhood neighborhood. With her new job at Sotheby’s and impending engagement, Hazel feels her life is changing for the better. She hardly predicts it will turn upside down, as it does with the discovery of Peggy Andrews’ Whisperwood.
