Summary
In Chapter 19, Hancock secretly hosts Shadwell, Fairfax, and Sarah in his home during the night. They all retire to their beds for the night, and Fairfax attempts to write a sermon for Sunday’s church service. However, he finds himself unable to write the sermon, as he thinks about what Shadwell said about Bishop Pole. Fairfax realizes that he can no longer be a priest, as he is now aware of the Church’s evil intentions, and his religious faith has been shaken to its core. Fairfax even considers writing an anti-Church, pro-science speech. A little later, Sarah arrives at his room and says that she is unable to sleep, and asks to sit with Fairfax for a little while. Soon, they admit their mutual attraction to each other and have sex. They fall asleep and awake a few hours later. Sarah sneaks back...
