Sutton, Indiana

Sutton, Indiana, is where Bobby Gene and Caleb live. The town seems fairly ordinary. There are several stores downtown, including the store that has the moped for sale. A few settings are described, but only in general terms. At one point, Caleb, Bobby Gene, and Styx are sitting near the school playground and the note the playground equipment. The town is not far from Indianapolis, but the family never goes there because Bobby feels that Sutton is much safer.

The Woods

There is a wooded area behind the Franklin home, and this is where Caleb and Bobby Gene meet Styx for the first time. The house where Styx lives is at the opposite side of the woods. There is a tree that Caleb comes to identify as Styx's office. There is a pond in the woods as well, fed by a stream, and the boys swim there...
