Chapter 17-20 Summary
In chapter seventeen the hippocampi are refusing to swim any farther toward man's land. They quickly reach land. They look at a newspaper and realize that they have been gone ten days although the trip didn't take that long from their point of view because time works differently away from the world of man. They know that they have to get back to camp with the fleece that night before Thalia's tree dies. Clarisse feels that there is no hope and she tells Percy that the Oracle told her that she will find what she seeks but despair and fly home alone. Tyson had saved the money that Hermes gave them and Percy gives it to Clarisse and tells her that the Oracle meant she would have to fly home alone because they only had enough money for one ticket.
