Summary
In Chapter 9, “Time to Heal,” back in the exam room, Maisie asks Mr. Lawson if he thinks she will be able to return to ballet school before “the next school year” (46). She wants to practice for “the audition season” (46). Mr. Lawson does not want her “to get [her] hopes up,” but thinks this goal is reasonable (48). Maisie starts daydreaming about dancing again.
In Chapter 10, “Oblivious I,” after her stimulation therapy, Maisie is glad to feel her muscles working again. However, her spirits change when she overhears Mom telling Marisol she wished Maisie would stop staking her future on ballet (51).
Mom wants to celebrate the news that Maisie is “ready for once-a-week visits” (51). They pick up pizza on the way home. Maisie receives texts from Eva about her audition. Maisie congratulates her, but feels a lump in her throat (53).
