Sandman/Lord Morpheus/Lord Shaper/Dream
Sandman, of the series title, is Lord Morpheus, the King of Dream, also known as Lord Shaper because he shapes things out of nothing. Morpheus rules the kingdom of the Dreaming, where dreams are created and live. Morpheus is overcome with guilt over having abandoned and killed his son, Orpheus. He is tiring of the responsibilities of his position as ruler over the Dreaming. Morpheus lives his life caretaking others but confides in no one about his own troubles. This life of responsibility has worn Morpheus down, but he cannot abandon it.
Death says Morpheus has been preparing to die for some time. He has had in his mind the seeds of discontent leading to his destruction. The Furies attack Morpheus in a complex plot, but it's possible Morpheus could have prevented this if he had the will to live. Instead, Morpheus prepares...
