Part Six Summary
Rose is on the plane to England. A smelly, creepy man is sitting near her. At customs, she sees him watching her and feels exposed. Jack Holdaway, one of her family's attorneys, meets Rose at the airport and brings her to the nursing home where her grandmother lived. Her grandmother fell into sleep and was asleep for years before she woke miraculously. Her name was Unity Kinkaid, and everyone called her Sleeping Beauty. A nurse takes Rose to her grandmother's room, which is empty. Rose runs into one of the residents, who tells Rose about her black American boyfriend during the war and the baby she had to give up. Rose meets two other residents. Amelia, Magda, and Helena remember Rose's grandmother. Magda tells an early version of Sleeping Beauty, where the heroine is impregnated with twins while sleeping, and she...
