Part Two Summary
Lyta's friend Carla talks to the police on the phone, trying to get someone to come investigate Daniel's kidnapping, while the radio announces that the man who requested the song has drowned, after standing up in a rowboat while drunk, to toast his companion's birthday. Two policemen, Luke Pinkerton and Gordy Fellowes, take their statements. When Lyta returns home, the babysitter is asleep on the floor with no memory of what's happened. Lyta doesn't know how the kidnappers got in. The doors were locked, but a bedroom window was open. The detectives discover that in her frustration getting into the apartment, Lyta bent and destroyed the locks on the door. The detectives say they will take a statement from the babysitter, who lives downstairs. The detectives give Carla a card and tell her they'll be in touch.
