Summary
In Chapter 23, “Del,” Del adjusted to his new position. He visited Rae regularly. Finally one day, she told him her real name. Del noticed how pretty she was. Over time, he found excuses “to go to the commissary” to see her (223).
When Del confronted Crow about almost killing a woman, Crow argued she deserved a punishment for “acting like a man” (226). He guessed she was gay, insisting there was something off about her relationship with Cornelia.
In Chapter 24, “Rae Lynn,” Rae Lynn and Cornelia grew closer. Cornelia began sharing struggles from her past. After marrying Otis, her mother rejected her, insisting her place was with her husband (230).
