Summary
In Part III, Chapter 12, Isabel reads Eva’s diary. In January 1960, Eva observed the 10-year anniversary of her mother Esther’s passing. She was working often and struggling to make ends meet. She wrote about her memories, particularly those from before and during the war. As a young Jewish girl, Eva’s family was targeted by the Nazi regime and forced out of their home. Her father died in the camps. Eva was sent to another camp and lost track of her mother. They were later reunited after the war. Shortly thereafter, Eva and her mother returned to their old house and discovered a family was living there. More recently, Eva told her friend about the house and its owners.
