Summary

In Chapter 10, Isabel joins Eva in Mother’s bedroom. They briefly discuss Isabel’s date. Isabel assures Eva she did not like kissing Johan. Then they kiss and have sex for the first time. Isabel is overwhelmed by desire throughout and wants “to envelope,” “to cover,” and to contain Eva (143).

Isabel wakes up to Eva asleep on her chest (145). She goes downstairs and tells Neelke she is having breakfast upstairs and not to disturb Eva. Back in Mother’s room, Isabel studies Eva in the bed, looks out the window, and gets lost in thought examining Mother’s old belongings. Eva wakes up when Isabel moves towards her diary. Isabel gives her breakfast and they have sex again.
