Summary
Part Three begins with the arrival of an email from Dr. John Gasson in Mongolia. He has forwarded her medical report and a study on preterm births in case she is still feeling guilty about flying. He asks Ariel how she is doing and she feels happy to be connected to the one person who was there with her the night she lost her baby. They begin a regular correspondence, first bonding over their experiences in South Africa, where John lives six months of the year. Although she is still grieving, his emails give Ariel something to look forward to when she gets up in the morning.
Analysis
The emails from Dr. Gasson symbolize Ariel's initial steps out of her grief and depression. The study he forwards her on preterm births is intended to absolve her of any residual guilt and begin the healing...
