Summary
Ariel packs Lucy's things to send to her in rehab. She realizes that the wholesomeness and reliability she initially saw in Lucy was a false front. Ariel is angry at Lucy for leaving her in the midst of their tragedy and for racking up debts Ariel knew nothing about. They need to sell their home on Shelter Island to pay for everything. Ariel is also resentful that Lucy lied to her for so long about drinking and made her feel guilty for cheating when she was carrying a destructive secret of her own.
Ariel takes the pictures of her and Lucy together off the wall and mails Lucy her things, glad to have them out of her house. Ariel is upset with herself for not realizing Lucy never got sober. But, more than anything, she is upset for not realizing what she feels was...
