Summary
Part Two begins a month later when Ariel finds out she is pregnant. When she calls Lucy at the office, it is noisy and chaotic in the background and they get disconnected. Ariel is too happy to care.
Ariel's mother is delighted and Ariel is reminded that it is her mom who always believed in her and pushed her to face her fears. When she was young and afraid to travel, it was her mother who encouraged her to "get on the plane" (131).
Ariel still worries that Lucy is not truly sober but she is preoccupied with her pregnancy. Lucy and the baby's father caution her to keep her pregnancy private for the first trimester in case of miscarriage.
