Chapter 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 Summary

In Chapter 10, Halt begins Will's trainings. Will is eager to learn about the weapons used, but does not like to learn about map reading or chart drawing. He is surprised by the weapons. There are no swords or battle axes, but a longbow and knives. Halt tells him that the principal weapons of a Ranger are stealth and silence and the ability to avoid being seen. Weapons are only used as a last resort. Will struggles to learn how to use the weapons and is advised that he needs lots of practice.

In Chapter 11, Sir Rodney is amazed by Horace's sword fighting skills. He watches him during a drill and sees the speed with which he executes the required moves and adds an extra stroke, while still keeping in time with the others. Sir Rodney calls this to the attention of the drillmaster...
