Summary

Part One, Chapter Six opens with a story of Emma Somers’--Nick’s mother--and her fallout with Rupert, a former bodyguard, after he insisted to the press that he had an affair with Emma and fathered at least one of her children. Because of this scandal, Nick is forced to take a brief sabbatical from Oxford.

At the start of November, Lacey arrives in England to visit Bex and Oxford. Lacey immediately fits in with the residents of Pembroke, and Bex indulges in showing her all of the sights. Lacey, however, is disappointed that she is unable to meet Nick. Before Lacey leaves, they decide to throw a Halloween-themed party for their birthday on November 5th. The night of the party, Bex dresses as a “Little White Lie” and Lacey goes as a “Dirty Little Secret” (72). The party gets...
