Chapter Eleven Summary
In Chapter Eleven, Rose runs directly to a pool of water in one of the palace gardens where Jean-Marc is sitting. She smells Desiree on him. He asks Rose to thank Artemis for returning his bride to him. When she smells other deer nearby, Rose runs again.
On day as Desiree is being fitted for new clothes, Jean-Marc watches as she calls for a bolt of yellow fabric. Claire suggests the color will make her look sallow and Rose asks Claire if she is being disobedient. She again orders the yellow satin. Claire feels as if she has been slapped. When she notices that Jean-Marc has observed the scene, she blushes and excuses herself by blaming her attitude on nerves caused by her sister's disappearance.
