Chapter Ten Summary
In Chapter Ten, Jean-Marc has the river dredged for the body of Desiree, but nothing is found. There is, however, a large feast held to celebrate his victory in war as well as the king's marriage. Meanwhile, Rose, who has been transformed into a doe, is awakened by the sounds of the men dredging the river for her. Rose's calls alert a herd which comes and surrounds her. She picks up a purple rose that she dropped from her mouth and follows the herd. They take her to her brother's chateau where she sees the painting of herself. Desiree enters the room but Rose notices that she wears Rose's face above her own, like a mask. Rose watches as Reginer enters the room and Desiree embraces him. When she realizes she does have family, Rose begs for Artemis to change her...
