Chapter Eight Summary
In the Land Beyond, the king visits the court painter and his wife to thank them for their hospitality while he recuperated at their home from his injuries. When he arrives, Claire tells the king there is a lady whom he must see. They escort him to an art studio where Jean-Marc is shown a painting of a woman who looks just like Lucienne. At first, Jean-Marc believes Reginer painted the lady this way because he knew what the queen looked like but Claire reminds him that Reginer had never seen Lucienne. Reginer tells the king he had seen the girl tending roses in a graveyard near his father's chateau. The king orders to be taken to her but Sabot, his adviser, will not allow it.
