Washington DC
All of the novel takes place in and around Washington DC. The bustle of the nation's capital relies on the traffic reports from Steve's radio station, WZZZ. Furthermore, the successful people of the city frequent charity dinners, such as the one put on by Aunt Zena that Steve takes Daisy to. Though politics play no role in the plot, the unusual life of the city and the powerful people in it make appearances. Yet, criminals that live in any large city, such as drug dealers, appear in the nation's capital as well.

Daisy Adams writes a book about dog treats to support herself through college. After the book enjoys moderate success, she begs Steve Crow for a spot on his radio station.
