Chapter 6 Summary
Steve leaves the office in the beginning of Chapter Six to discover Daisy and Elsie talking with two policemen. Incredulously, she tells Steve that someone stole her car. Elsie seconds the surprise, recalling the poor condition of the car. Though Steve treats Daisy sympathetically, inwardly he rejoices that she no longer drives such a wreck. He offers the use of the black sports car, which he no longer drives as Bob does not fit inside. The police instruct her to come to the precinct at a later date to pick up the final report for her insurance. Elsie leaves for a bingo date. Together, Steve and Daisy leave, as well.
Steve notices that, on the ride home, Daisy seems emotional. She says little. Eventually, she admits that the theft makes her feel like a victim in a way she never experienced before. Steve...
