Yimbo

The story begins in the village of Yimbo. Akoko is born and grows up there before she gets married to Owuour Kembo. She returns to the village, once after a conflict with her mother-in-law and once more after settling a political dispute with her brother-in-law.

Sakwa

Sakwa is the home village of Akoko's husband. She moves there after they get married. While she raises her children, including Nyabera, and experiences years of marital happiness there, it never feels quite as much like a home as Yimbo does to her. So, once she has settled her political and financial disputes, she departs.

Aluor
