Summary
As Chapter Seven begins, Jack and Wynn take turns staying awake, watching the fire and keeping an eye on Maia. The rest of the chapter focuses on Wynn during one of his times on watch. The narration describes his consistent attention to Maia, and his relief at what seems to be her starting to get a little better. He reflects on what might have caused her injuries, thinking that it was not likely a bear but perhaps a fall, or maybe the drunken Texans. He also thinks about home, imagining what he and Jack would be doing if they were at his family’s house. He recalls his adventurous grandfather, a wildly creative artist, and his father, also artistic but a more conservative architect.
