Chapters 34-35 Summary

Chapter 34

Silenus, A. Bettik, Raul, and DeSoya are picked up from Hyperion by a Treeship containing many of Aenea's disciples. Together they journey to Mars, where they meet Kassad, who tells them that the Sol system has been secured and that Earth was returned to its proper place during the shared moment. Silenus declares that the Earth must be quarantine for two years, and that only he, Raul, DeSoya and A. Bettik will be going to its surface on the first visit. Once on Earth, Raul correctly deduces that A. Bettik is the Observer from the Lions, Tigers, and Bears. A. Bettik confirms this, but denies fathering Aenea's child. Aenea appears as a younger woman. She tells Raul that they have twenty-three months together, and Raul realizes that he is the other man, and that the child will be theirs.
