Summary
In 1851 London, Mel’s patrons take her to the Great Exhibition. There, she recognizes the Erszebet standing with her parents. Mel realizes that this is the moment when she convinces Erszebet to extend her life into the future. The young Erszebet is exuberant and eager, but when Mel explains what she wants, Erszebet refuses, repulsed. They return to Erszebet’s parents, who anxiously ask whether Mel had any information about magic’s decline. Mel reveals that Erszebet has the capacity to save magic in the long run, but leaves the Crystal Palace without hope.
Oda and company try to construct an ODEC, but they need superconductors and someone blocks their only source. Mortimer discovers the block comes not from Blevins but from the Fugger Bank, and Tristan wonders whether the Fuggers also rerouted the ATTO from the Walmart.
