Summary
“The Siege of Gondor” opens in Minas Tirith. The loud shriek of a Black Rider is heard, and five dark Nazgul are seen swooping over a small group of Men on horseback. The leader of the group sounds his horn, which Beregond recognizes as the trumpet call of Faramir.
The men are thrown from their horses and run for the city gate on foot. Gandalf sends a shaft of light shooting upward into one of the Nazgul. It sends him away, and Gandalf returns to the city with Faramir slumped over his saddle. Faramir is taken to Denethor’s chambers, where he is shocked to see Pippin. Gandalf erupts when he learns that Frodo and Sam are headed to Mordor by way of Cirith Ungol. After an argument, Pippin asks Gandalf why Frodo and Sam are traveling with Gollum. Gandalf fears Gollum's treachery, but...
